The Garfield Heights Youth Theatre is a Musical Theatre organization for 3rd to 8th graders of the Garfield Heights community and surrounding areas.
Mission Statement
The Garfield Heights Youth Theatre (GHYT) is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide instruction in dance, voice, and drama to students in grades 3-8 and living in various communities of Northeast Ohio. GHYT provides this performance arts instruction in a non-competitive environment so that all students enrolled experience the countless benefits and life-long joys of participating in musical theatre.
The Directors
Mr. Justin Steck - Artistic/Managing Director
Justin Steck is very excited to have taken over the responsibility of leading the Garfield Heights Youth Theatre. Growing up in Garfield Heights Justin received his Dramatic Arts degree from Cleveland State University with concentrations in Acting, Directing and Theatre Education. Justin has been affiliated with productions in the Cleveland Area and now most recently performs murder mysteries with Backstage Productions. Justin has directed for various schools including Garfield Heights High School and Middle School, Cuyahoga Heights High School, Cleveland State University and most recently St. Ignatius High School. Justin hopes the Youth Theatre continues to grow and be prosperous in the years to come.
Ms. Jennifer Justice - Dance Instructor
Jennifer very happily returns for her sixth year as the Choreographer/Dance Instructor for the Garfield Heights Youth Theatre. She has been dancing since the age of four, and has been performing and choreographing throughout the Cleveland area for nearly twenty years. As a performer, Jennifer has appeared in area productions of Chicago, 42nd Street, Cabaret, The Producers, La Cage Aux Folles, Children of Eden, Little Shop Of Horrors and Gypsy. As a choreographer, Jennifer's work has appeared on stage at Pickwick and Frolic, The Cassidy Theatre, Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, Lakeland Civic Theatre, Garfield Players, Garfield Heights High School, St. Ignatius High School, and several other regional venues. Jennifer sends a warm welcome to both Mr. Steck and Ms. Davis as the newest members to the GHYT family. And of course, many thanks to the wonderful kids who bring so much joy to her life.
Ms. Amy Davis - Music Instructor
Amy Davis (soprano) is a native of Wilmington, NC. She received her BM in voice performance from Furman University in Greenville, SC and her MM in opera performance from the Maryland Opera Studio. Past opportunities have included: touring with the Boston Pops on their Holiday tour, performing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as a featured performer in their Holiday Spectacular, and being a performer at Quisisana Resort in Maine, to name a few. Favorite roles have included Anne in A Little Night Music, Julie Jordan in Carousel, and Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte. In September of 2010, upon completing her Masters, she began working as an artist in residence with Shreveport Opera in Louisiana. While there, she performed the role of Luisa in their mainstage production of The Fantasticks and taught students through the SOX Outreach Program. After completing her contract, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and is currently teaching private voice and piano lessons.
